Not far outside Calgary a private home has been designed using elements from medieval castles.

The theme is carried through the front door...

and into a large hallway with battlements and arches. The owner decided to fill the space above

with a mural on a medieval theme. As muralists set to work shadows of figures appear.

Work begins from the floor with poles, creating a composition that works from below.

Refinements are added from scaffolding and ladders.

Figures on the right side of the room represent the search for enlightenment with musicians...

monks, alchemists, pontificators and the devout.

On the left are those of valour who conquer, defend and celebrate.

Between them, over the door sits the king and heir to the throne flanked by a Royal Guard.
